Tom Daley travels the world for new ITV show

For his new ITV2 reality series, Olympic diving star Tom Daley will be heading off on a backpacking trip around the globe.

During the six-week show, Tom Daley Takes On The World, Tom will be accompanied by best friend Sophie Lee and will visit countries such as Thailand, Japan, Australia, Morocco and New Zealand.

"Diving and training are my first love, but I'm looking forward to a break from the norm and discovering more about places I've never had the chance to explore before," said Olympic bronze medalist Tom, 19. "And to do it all with my best friend will be amazing."

The pair will stay in hostels and take overnight train journeys to make the experience a typical student backpacking trip. Tom also hopes to complete a wish-list of challenges that includes flying a jet-plane and bungee jumping. He'll also meet up with other friends such as Saturdays star Mollie King along the way. Fans will see a whole new side to Tom, away from the world of diving and his home life in Plymouth.

ITV director of digital channels Angela Jain said: "Tom's career as a diver has captivated the nation. We hope this show will give people the chance to see the teenager behind the trunks as he enjoys his global backpacking adventure."

Nicholas Cannon
TV Content Director on TV Times, What's On TV and TV & Satellite Week

I'm a huge fan of television so I really have found the perfect job, as I've been writing about TV shows, films and interviewing major television, film and sports stars for over 25 years. I'm currently TV Content Director on What's On TV, TV Times, TV and Satellite Week magazines plus Whattowatch.com. I previously worked on Woman and Woman's Own in the 1990s. Outside of work I swim every morning, support Charlton Athletic football club and get nostalgic about TV shows Cagney & Lacey, I Claudius, Dallas and Tenko. I'm totally on top of everything good coming up too.
