TV Times top picks for tonight

What’s on telly tonight? Here the TV Times team of expert reviewers highlight the best shows on Thursday 8th February

Death in Paradise, 9.00pm, BBC1

You’d think a gorgeous Caribbean island would be the perfect place for a spiritual retreat – but not when the island in question is Saint Marie! Sure enough, one of the residents is murdered on his way for a swim and there are no witnesses – because everyone else was meditating with their eyes closed. We’re sure the team will solve the mystery… that’s if Jack’s not too distracted by the glowing speech he has to write for the Commissioner! Rating: ****

Animals with Cameras, 8.00pm, BBC1

Animals with Cameras

Wildlife film-maker Gordon Buchanan captures further astonishing footage by attaching cameras to more animal subjects in episode two of this excellent documentary series. This week Gordon is in Namibia, where a camera strapped to the head of an orphan cheetah gives us a thrilling cheetah’s-eye view of the hunt. Meanwhile, off the south coast of Australia, fur seals carrying cameras reveal how they manage to thrive and hunt in these dangerous, shark-infested waters. Finally, in South Africa, can footage taken by hungry baboons offer a solution to their crop-raiding habits that will keep local farmers happy? Rating: ****

Trouble at the Zoo, 9.00pm, BBC2

South Lakes Safari Zoo in Cumbria is the setting for a real turnaround story. Last year, after revelations that nearly 500 animals had died there in less than four years, the management of South Lakes handed over the running of the zoo to members of the staff. But with a threatened loss of licence heading their way, can the relatively inexperienced new team keep the zoo open and turn a profit? Rating: ****
