Michael Caine charmed the audience in his portrayal of the savvy cockney mastermind behind a daring heist in Italy in the 1969 film The Italian Job.
In 2003, director of the reboot F Gary Gray did his best to upgrade the vintage version with shiny new parts (Charlize Theron and Mark Whalberg). However, with a change in storyline and without Michael Caine the only favourable comparison to the original film was the use of Minis as the getaway car.
