National treasure Sir Bruce had a close history with the NTAs. The show celebrated his iconic status with the illustrious Special Recognition Award in 2011. On accepting the accolade from Stephen Fry, he said: “It’s so overwhelming – the best thing I’ve ever won”. The following year, Bruce created another classic TV moment when he opened the NTAs by singing Let There Be Love with Ant & Dec.

Nominations for The Bruce Forsyth Entertainment Award include A Question Of Sport,  Little Big Shots, The Graham Norton Show, Blind Date and All Round To Mrs Brown's.

Among the big battles this year are within the new Crime Drama category which sees Line of Duty and Broadchurch take on Strike and Sherlock.

There are plenty of your other favourites up for an NTAs gong too, including Doctor Foster, Car Share. Love island and Bake off. The TV Judge Category sees new judges Prue Leith (The Great British Bake Off) and Shirley Ballas (Strictly Come Dancing) going up against each other.

The battle among the soaps is as intense as ever in the Serial Drama Performance Award, wth Danny Dyer, Charlotte Bellamy, Lacey Turner, Jamie Lomas, Chris Gascoyne, Diane Parish and Connor McIntyre among those nominated.

Meanwhile the Best Newcomer Award is an all-soap battle between Danny Walters (EastEnders), Ned Porteous (Emmerdale), Rob Mallard (Coronation Street) and Nathan Morris (Hollyoaks).

Nicholas Cannon
TV Content Director on TV Times, What's On TV and TV & Satellite Week

I'm a huge fan of television so I really have found the perfect job, as I've been writing about TV shows, films and interviewing major television, film and sports stars for over 25 years. I'm currently TV Content Director on What's On TV, TV Times, TV and Satellite Week magazines plus Whattowatch.com. I previously worked on Woman and Woman's Own in the 1990s. Outside of work I swim every morning, support Charlton Athletic football club and get nostalgic about TV shows Cagney & Lacey, I Claudius, Dallas and Tenko. I'm totally on top of everything good coming up too.
