Dynasties, 8.30pm, BBC1
Following the massive success of last year’s Blue Planet II, Sir David Attenborough returns to present this breathtaking new series that follows five different animal dynasties facing huge challenges. Tonight’s first episode follows a troupe of chimpanzees in Senegal, West Africa, which is led by an elderly alpha male. He has been the leader for three years, which is a long time for any chimp, and he must fend off constant and potentially fatal challenges in order to keep his crown. Touching, and at times heartbreaking, this new addition to the BBC’s natural history catalogue is a worthy successor to the likes of Blue Planet and Planet Earth. Rating: *****
Doctor Who, 7pm, BBC1
The TARDIS lands in Punjab, India this week, but it’s 1947, and the country is undergoing Partition, with forced resettlement to create the new country of Pakistan. Yasmin wanted to go to this particular time as she’s determined to find her grandmother, who lived in the Punjab and had a few secrets when she was young. Prepare yourself for some emotional family wounds being opened. Rating: ****
Little Drummer Girl, 9.30pm, BBC1
Charlie prepares to enter what Becker calls ‘the theatre of the real’ as she sets off on her first undercover mission. Driving across Europe in an explosives-laden car, she must keep her wits about her and stay off the cigarettes if she wants to survive. In Munich, Kurtz suggests that some collateral damage might be necessary if his Israeli intelligence team are to infiltrate the Palestinian terrorist cell, but it doesn’t go down well with Becker. Rating: ****
