Amanda Mealing: ‘Casualty’s 30th anniversary pushes the boundaries!’ (VIDEO)

On the BAFTA red carpet this evening Casualty star Amanda Mealing reveals spills and thrills are in store, as the long-running drama gets set to celebrate it’s 30th birthday.

Amanda says: “Just yesterday we finished filming episodes one and two of series thirty. It’s really exciting. It pushes the boundaries of what we see most weeks. I don’t think anyone is going to be disappointed!”

Next week, as a precursor to the 30th celebrations, fans of the show will see Connie Beauchamp and long-serving nurse, Charlie Fairhead (Derek Thompson) have an action-packed adventure in Romania.

Amanda says: “I really enjoyed going to Romania. It was like shooting a movie. I kept calling it ‘Casualty the movie!’”

It’s been over a decade since Casualty, which consistently pulls in a big audience for BBC1 on Saturday nights, was nominated for a BAFTA. Amanda agrees with What’s on TV, this accolade seems a long time coming:

She explains: “It feels long overdue. It’s been 12 years since the last nomination, but it’s a huge honour.

"A lot of hard work has gone into changing [Casualty] in the last eighteen months, so it’s really nice for it to be recognised. Whether we win or not we’ve been nominated and that’s the special thing.

“As you can see I’ve been let out of prison and put my glad rags on!”
