Casualty's Amanda Mealing: ‘This is Rita’s chance to get rid of Connie!’

As viewers saw in Saturday's Casualty, Connie Beauchamp’s colleagues – especially Rita – didn’t hold back when the police questioned them about the Holby City surgeon’s character.

Chatting to What’s on TV about the explosive storyline, Amanda Mealing said: “When the police question everyone at Holby ED about Connie’s character, and whether she’s the type of person who could have helped Alfred die, everyone grasps the opportunity to stick the knife in, because they hate her!

“Charlie is the only one on her side. But he’s a deeply honest man and, in trying to defend her, ends up putting another nail in Connie’s coffin! She ends up completely alone.”

Under intense police pressure, Connie confessed to stealing drugs from the hospital, certain they were still in her desk drawer at work, and would prove she hadn’t killed Alfred. But before the police could confirm Connie’s story, Rita – who relishes running the ED in Connie’s absence – sneaked into her office and pocketed the pills!

Amanda explained: “Connie admits she did take the tablets, and they’re still in her office. But the police can’t find them because Rita has beaten them to it. Rita’s behaviour is malicious. She really sees this as her opportunity to get rid of Connie once and for all!”

With no love lost between the two women, will Rita regret her actions and come clean? Or is Connie destined for a life behind bars? Read our sneak peek at the next episode for more…
