Big Brother narrator Marcus Bentley had the most iconic TV voice of the noughties, according to a poll. The Gateshead-born voice artist, who also works on Celebrity Big Brother, beat The X Factor's Peter Dickson and Simon Greenall - the voice behind Aleksandr the Meerkat - to top the poll by Ultra Chloraseptic Anaesthetic Throat Sprays. "Marcus Bentley has an attacking voice, with quite an edge to the vocal quality, but it's his accent that people tend to find earthy and attractive," said vocal expert Sally Hague. "He bites off sounds quite abruptly, and glides on others in an unpredictable way, that makes him sound rather dangerous, but there's an underlying warmth and jauntiness to the rhythm which seems to say, 'Don't worry, I don't bite!'" Simon Greenall, who voices the famous Compare The Market meerkat, came in second place, while Peter Dickson - the booming X Factor announcer - came third. Ballykissangel star Dervla Kirwan took fourth spot for her seductive "This is not just food" voiceovers for Marks And Spencer, followed by National Lottery's Alan Dedicoat.
