Maggie Gyllenhaal: 'Downton Abbey is like crack for me!'

Maggie Gyllenhaal has admitted to being addicted to Downton Abbey.

The Hollywood actress, 36, who makes her own small screen debut later this year in BBC2's The Honourable Woman, said she doesn't watch much TV, but is definitely a fan of the ITV period drama.

"I watch so little of anything because I have two little kids, but I like Girls and I like Downton Abbey - that show is like crack for me!

"If I'm a few episodes behind, I'm really happy about it, because then I can go and watch them all."

The Donnie Darko and Dark Knight star joins a long list of A-list names making the move from film to TV, such as Kevin Bacon in The Following, and Matthew McConaughey in True Detective, which is being hailed as the best US cop show since The Wire.

Maggie is positive about actors blurring the lines between movies and TV 'as long as the work is excellent'.

She said: "There was a time when the work, at least in America, was not as excellent on TV, it was rare.

"Then The Sopranos came out and everyone thought it was amazing and that's probably one of the things that caused the shift."
