Art dealer Philip Mould examines a landscape as BBC1’s popular art show Fake of Fortune? returns this week. Could it be a Gainsborough?

It’s not often Philip Mould gets things wrong, but an old painting comes back to haunt him as the eighth series of BBC1’s popular art show Fake or Fortune? begins this week.

In the heady days of 1999, the art expert helped authenticate a beautiful 18th-century landscape as a lost Thomas Gainsborough.

But when an amateur collector presents a similar piece tonight, Philip is forced to question his decision.
