Acclaimed writer Jimmy McGovern certainly seems to bring out the best in Sean Bean – their last collaboration saw Sean give an Emmy-winning performance as a troubled transvestite in Accused.

Now, the actor is on equally compelling, heartbreaking form as a devoted Catholic priest in Jimmy’s thought-provoking new series.

As he fights to keep his past at bay, Father Michael Kerrigan has his work cut out helping his poverty-stricken flock.

First on his radar is single mum Christina – a stunning turn by Anna Friel – who, in a moment of desperation, makes a terrible mistake.

Must-see drama.
