Bob is riding high after the success of Cabaret but wife Gwen is struggling as BBC2 drama Fosse/Verdon continues this week
BBC2’s compelling drama Fosse/Verdon about the careers of Bob Fosse and Gwen Verdon veers into A Star Is Born territory this week, with Bob (Sam Rockwell) in demand after the huge success of Cabaret.
He throws himself into rehearsals for Broadway musical Pippin, while Gwen (above with daughter Nicole) is required to audition for a part in a new play.
She’s desperate for Bob to use his influence to improve the shaky production, but he’s too busy having the time of his life with drugs and girls.
And there’s an utterly devastating scene when Gwen’s terminally ill friend Joan hits a very raw nerve about Gwen’s parenting.
If you were in any doubt already, this episode makes it clear why Michelle Williams is tipped to win her first Emmy award for her portrayal of Gwen.
