A giddily enjoyable sci-fi romp about a misfit band of vagabonds and freaks, led by Chris Pratt, who stumble into a quest to save the galaxy from destruction.

Pratt's swaggering space adventurer Peter Quill is a cocky, charismatic outlaw who gets in and out of scrapes by means of cheek and bluster rather than his not especially quick wits.

His oddball team, banding together to retrieve an all-powerful orb, comprise green-skinned alien Gamora (Zoe Saldana), tattooed, slow-on-the-uptake hulk Drax the Destroyer (ex-wrestler Dave Bautista), a sarcastic talking raccoon, Rocket (voiced by Bradley Cooper), and his sidekick Groot (Vin Diesel), a walking tree whose vocabulary is limited to the three words ('I am Groot').

The plot is just an excuse for fizzing CGI-boosted action and larky, tongue-in-cheek badinage from the kooky heroes - but it's no less entertaining for that.
