Nicolas Cage is excellent in this stylish and chilling sci-fi thriller.

He gives one of his best performances an astrophysics professor who confronts a terrifying mystery from a time capsule dug up at his son's school.

The capsule is filled with letters, written by schoolchildren from 1959, but the envelope given to Cage's son contains a strange note with nothing but rows of numbers.

However, Cage soon realises that the seemingly random figures are in fact are a pattern - and comes to a shattering realisation...

Rose Byrne, as the daughter of the schoolchild, helps him try to work out what is happening, and what have some strange men in suits got to do with it all?

It's a compelling, intelligent and good-looking mystery with some excellent special effects and an affecting finale.
