Aidensfield mechanic Rosie Cartwright's trip to Australia becomes cause for concern among the local police when her travelling companion, sheep shearer Mick, returns to the village without her. Garage owner Bernie Scripps and Pc Geoff Younger want to know where Rosie is and are worried when Mick tells them he hasn't seen her for ages. A check of her bank records reveals that Rosie hasn't drawn any funds from her account in a long while. DS Rachel Dawson is keen to investigate but, being in England, there's only so much she can do. So, she's given permission to travel to Australia, and to take Pc Joe Mason with her. But nurse Carol Cassidy's decision to travel with them, to search for her long lost brother, could place the whole investigation in jeopardy... Elsewhere, the circus is in town – sort of. Sofia Fantoni, who used to perform in a big tent, is squatting near David Stockwell's house and he's angry. But it turns out that Sofia is an old friend of Peggy's and David's anger melts away when she agrees to go to the movies with him. Lord Ashfordly has nothing to smile about, though, when an intruder ruins his dinner party for his visiting nephew, Major Giles MacLean. Sgt George Miller has a good idea about who the crook is – but can he find evidence to back up his suspicions?
