A mix-up at work has huge consequences as the daytime drama Moving On returns

A new batch of the popular standalone dramas Moving On will be broadcast over the week, featuring well-known faces including Lucy-Jo Hudson, Ian Puleston-Davies and, in this opening helping, former soap stars Adam Thomas (Emmerdale) and Shobna Gulati (Coronation Street).

Adam plays Rob, the happy-go-lucky flatmate of Carl (Ben Tavassoli), a cleaner at the local university who finds himself caught in a misunderstanding that has life-changing consequences.

Shobna plays Carl’s meticulous boss, Pauline, who is stunned when events start to unravel and the truth is eventually exposed.

Adam Thomas as Rob in Moving On

Here, in an exclusive chat with TV Times, Adam tells us all about life after Emmerdale and competing with his big brother, former Corrie star Ryan Thomas, for roles…

Tell us about your character in episode one of Moving On…

Moving On was my first role after leaving Emmerdale, so it was really nice to get in front of the camera again.

I play Rob, who’s like a big kid; he loves to party and is a bit of a slob.

He shares a flat with Carl, his best mate from school.

Carl is keen to make something of his life whereas Rob is just happy going down to the pub!

Shobna Gulati, who was in Corrie with my brother Ryan, plays Carl’s boss, so it was lovely to catch up with her.

With Ryan having left his role as Jason Grimshaw back in 2016, is there now any rivalry between you both for acting jobs?

So far we’ve never been up for the same roles, but it would be a weird one.

I can’t imagine the two of us sitting in a waiting room getting ready to audition for the same part – that would be mad.

He’d probably get it, to be honest!

Are you and Ryan competitive with each other in general?

Yeah, I guess we are a bit!

I mean, he came first in Celebrity Big Brother and I only came third in I’m a Celebrity!

But we’re there for each other.

When I found out I’d got the Moving On job, he was over the moon for me.

It’d be great fun to be in something together. I feel like we should. We both love acting, we love each other, so why not?

Maybe we could be like the Kemp brothers and play the Krays!
