Shaun of the Dead - ITV2

It may well be a one-joke movie, but Simon Pegg’s hysterical spoof of zombie horror films makes that joke stretch a very long way

It may well be a one-joke movie, but Simon Pegg’s hysterical spoof of zombie horror films makes that joke stretch a very long way.

Lovelorn electrical shop assistant Pegg (who also co-wrote the script with director Edgar Wright) and his slovenly flatmate Nick Frost are the unlikely heroes with the task of battling an invasion of cannibal zombies that are taking over London - and they think the ideal place to tai shelter is in their favourite local pub.

Kate Ashfield, Penelope Wilton, Bill Nighy, Lucy Davis and Dylan Moran also star and a host of familiar faces also pop up, including Jessica Stevenson, Peter Serafinowicz, Rafe Spall, Martin Freeman and Reece Shearsmith.

This inspired comedy horror gets the tricky balance between humour, scares and gory action just right.

Pegg, Wright and Frost also went on to collaborate on Hot Fuzz and The World’s End.
