An actor who needs no introduction kicks off the new series of the genealogy series... it's Charles Dance

Charles Dance has played some formidable characters over the years but his real-life softer side shines through in this opening episode of the genealogy series, which is one of the most moving we've seen.

While the artistic connections and a cheeky family scandal on his mother's side are enlightening, what really captivates is his emotional investigation into the life of his father Walter, who died when Charles was a toddler.

The actor is stunned to discover that he had two half-sisters he never knew about and it almost turns into an episode of Long Lost Family when he travels to South Africa to meet his great-niece. A truly powerful watch.
