Vengeance is a journey with no return.

A mid-air plane collision devastates the lives of two family men in Aftermath, a dour revenge drama inspired by real events. Construction foreman Arnold Schwarzenegger lost his wife and pregnant daughter in the crash; air traffic controller Scoot McNairy was on duty at the time. The two leads do a fair job of conveying their characters’ mutual torment, but the film is too ploddingly predictable in the way it sets the pair on an inevitable collision course of their own.

Certificate 15. Runtime 92 mins. Director Elliott Lester

Aftermath debuts on Sky Cinema Premiere on Sunday 5 November. Available on Blu-ray & DVD from Signature Entertainment.

Jason Best

A film critic for over 25 years, Jason admits the job can occasionally be glamorous – sitting on a film festival jury in Portugal; hanging out with Baz Luhrmann at the Chateau Marmont; chatting with Sigourney Weaver about The Archers – but he mostly spends his time in darkened rooms watching films. He’s also written theatre and opera reviews, two guide books on Rome, and competed in a race for Yachting World, whose great wheeze it was to send a seasick film critic to write about his time on the ocean waves. But Jason is happiest on dry land with a classic screwball comedy or Hitchcock thriller.
