Martial arts star Scott Adkins (opens in new tab) plays a widowed US federal agent who has been living in hiding in London with his young daughter after falling foul of a ruthless arms dealer (James Cosmo). Then his cover is blown and his enemy dispatches Stu Bennett’s deadly contract killer (‘the most dangerous assassin Europe has to offer’) to eliminate him.

WWE Studios action thriller Eliminators boasts a shaky plot and terrible dialogue, but the fights – including a scrap inside one of the gondolas on the Thames cable car – are brawny enough to keep fans of the genre satisfied. Curious, too, to see British-born Adkins returning to home soil - but playing an expat American.

Certificate 15. Runtime 91 mins. Director James Nunn

Eliminators debuts on Sky Cinema Premiere on Tuesday 5 September. Released on DVD & Digital by Altitude Film Distribution.

A film critic for over 25 years, Jason admits the job can occasionally be glamorous – sitting on a film festival jury in Portugal; hanging out with Baz Luhrmann at the Chateau Marmont; chatting with Sigourney Weaver about The Archers – but he mostly spends his time in darkened rooms watching films. He’s also written theatre and opera reviews, two guide books on Rome, and competed in a race for Yachting World, whose great wheeze it was to send a seasick film critic to write about his time on the ocean waves. But Jason is happiest on dry land with a classic screwball comedy or Hitchcock thriller.
