Alexander Armstrong is to front a new game show for BBC Two. Pointless sees five pairs of contestants compete for a cash prize by winning the fewest points. A panel of 100 people has been asked the Pointless questions before the show and the contestants must aim to achieve the fewest points by finding the most obscure answer for each question. Contestants who come up with answers that none of 100 people had thought of will add money to the prize jackpot, which can be won at the end of each show. A comedian, actor and presenter, Alexander has been a frequent guest host on the BBC's satirical news quiz Have I Got News For You and was tipped to take over as host of Channel 4's Countdown when Des O'Connor left in 2009. Liam Keelan, controller of BBC Daytime, said: "Pointless is an wonderfully irreverent addition to our portfolio of daytime quizzes, which I'm sure will keep viewers entertained." David Flynn, managing director of Brighter Pictures, added: "We're delighted to have Alexander Armstrong as host, the format has an inherent humour that he'll be the perfect presenter to bring out."
