Lancashire police have ended their investigation into the alleged attack on Strictly's Gorka Marquez in Blackpool last month after a review of CCTV.

Police have closed an investigation into a reported “assault” on Strictly Come Dancing star Gorka Marquez.

The professional dancer was said to have been beaten up by a gang of youths on a street in Blackpool just hours after he took part in the BBC One live show last month.

A spokesman for Lancashire Police said: “We have carried out a proportionate investigation which is now closed. No arrests have been made.

“We have never received a complaint from the victim and any injuries sustained would seem to be of a minor nature.

“We will always take reports of crime seriously and would urge anyone who has been a victim to come forward so they can assist us in our inquiries.”

It was reported that the Spanish dancer would need dental surgery after having two teeth broken when he was punched in the face as “a group of local louts came out of nowhere”.

The 26-year-old was said to have been targeted as he walked to the resort’s Flamingo's nightclub with fellow dancers Aljaz Skorjanec and Neil Jones.

Police – who did not speak to Marquez – found no evidence of any attack after an exhaustive review of CCTV both from the street and Flamingo’s, according to the Blackpool Gazette.

Marquez thanked fans for their messages of support after the alleged assault.

After the alleged incident, Marquez tweeted: “Thanks for all your kind messages and support about Blackpool. “It was a bad experience but I’m feeling better and just want to look forward to the show on Saturday!”

Marquez had appeared as part of group dances in Strictly since the Blackpool show. He and celebrity partner Tameka Empson were voted out of the show earlier in the series after losing in a dance-off against TV presenter Laura Whitmore and Giovanni Pernice.
