6 Things We'd Love To See If Brief Encounters Returns

BRIEF ENCOUNTERs, Sophie Rundle

Will there be a second series of Brief Encounters? We hope so... and here are things we want to happen if/when it does return to ITV

ITV hasn't said if hit 80s drama Brief Encounters will return for a second series, but for us, it has been one of the telly stand-outs of 2016, providing a weekly dose of tears, laughter, dodgy fashion and marital aids.

Brief Encounters, starring Sophie Rundle, Angela Griffin, Penelope Wilton and Sharon Rooney, is the story of four women who bond after becoming party planners for underwear firm Ann Summers. It drew nearly five millions viewers each Monday, and became one of the most talked-about programmes on Twitter and Facebook.

It seems that you the viewer agree want another series, too. TV Times asked their Facebook followers the question: 'Would you like to see a second series of Brief Encounters?'

The response has been overwhelming...

If ITV does commission a second series of the drama, here are 6 things we thing need to happen...

1 STEPH GETS HER COPPER

We were delighted that Steph (Rundle) became Area Manger for Ann Summers and her love-life looked rosier, too, after a troubled marriage to Terry (Karl Davies). But the series ended with a classic chase after a train and Pc Johnny Daniels. We NEED her to be happy in series two.

2 HAPPY DAYS FOR PAULINE

It was a tearjerker when Pauline finally accepted her adopted son, Johnny, but not so happy was her husband, Brian. We want him to accept his wife's past, as well as she - eventually - did.

3 MORE '80S MUSIC... AND MORE OF RUSSELL'S DANCING

Things were looking up for newly-weds Dawn and Russell, but please, ITV, can we have more of Will Merrick dancing in the altogether in series two?! Oh and THAT soundtrack... Blondie, Duran Duran, Madonna... MORE!

4 NITA BECOMES A SUPER SELLER

Unfortunately, Nita was facing a rather uncertain future. After giving birth to her fifth (yes, fifth!) child, she should have been overjoyed. But, shortly before that we saw her loveable rogue of a husband Kieren (Don Gilet) walking into the police station, to admit his part in the hit and run… and we didn’t see him come out. We'd love Nita to become party planner extraordinaire as she tries to raise five kids as a single mum.

5 BUNNY AS A FRENCH MAID

We can’t forget Hellie (Chloe Pirrie) and her buttoned-up mum Bunny Matlock, played by the always-excellent Pippa Haywood. We’d love nothing more than for Bunny to become a fully paid-up member of the Ann Summers brigade, selling vibrators to the masses while wearing a French Maid’s outfit. We can hope…

6 NEW FACES

That’s what could happen to the characters we do know about – but, as we know, our girls appeared to recruit half of Sheffield as party planners in the show’s closing moments, so we could welcome LOTS of new faces!
