The actor is taking a break from the medical drama…

Casualty star Michael Stevenson has confirmed that he has filmed his final scenes as popular paramedic Iain Dean.

The actor waved goodbye to his character, who he has played since 2012, with an emotional post – but Casualty fans shouldn’t be too disappointed as it looks like Michael will reprise his role of Iain in the future.

He said: “Thanks for keeping me warm, coat. Just hang here for a while, I won't need you this summer! 6 years done. Memories banked. Laughs laughed. And several exploding cars, collapsing buildings, and ambulances crashed! Until next time...”

Although he has finished filming his scenes as Iain, the show is filmed around four months in advance, so he will remain on screens until autumn.

The 36-year-old star, who spoke to us recently, has been involved in a huge storyline as Iain, who’s been recovering physically and mentally since a near-fatal overdose led to him needing major surgery.

Speaking about his decision to take a break from the medical drama last month, Iain said: “With huge sadness but immense pride, I have decided to take a break from this amazing show. Playing the role of Iain Dean has been a pure pleasure over the past six years and I have nothing but fine and fond memories. I have laughed every day and wish to thank everyone involved at Casualty for making my time here unforgettable.

“Thank you to the fans of the show for being so supportive of Iain throughout his mental illness storyline. The response from the public has been astonishing and I am incredibly proud of the work and what it has done for people’s perception and awareness of needing to talk. Iain’s journey will continue.”

Casualty continues on Saturday, June 15 at 8.25pm on BBC One.
