Today I’ve been pondering over how I’d look in cowboy boots, denim jacket and hot pants after stumbling upon a Dukes of Hazzard lookalike competition on the internet. Hmm, now where did I put that blonde wig that I recently purchased for that fancy dress knees-up?
OK, OK, Jessica Simpson I ain’t, but maybe I could locate some denim dungarees and a cowboy shirt...
Actually, I’m not serious. The silly yee-ha hijinks of this show (and today’s movie spin-off) have never gelled well with me, and the prize for winning the lookalike competition is two tickets to the Smoky Mountain fanfest in mid-July, which would mean if my Willie Nelson impersonation actually won, I’d have to get myself over the pond to East Tennessee.
Hmm, personally I don’t feel that three days hobnobbing with Hazzard maniacs over Hazzard memorabilia and merchandise is worth the price of an air ticket, even if there is the opportunity to see an ageing munchkin.
However, I’m sure there are fans crazy enough to consider it. I know this because I myself forked out to go to East Tennessee two years ago on a very different crazed fan mission, but a crazed fan mission nevertheless.
The Dukes of Hazzard is showing on ITV1 tonight at 10.15pm
