The director, writer and co-star of this little known gem about creative pies, domestic violence and friendship was 40-year-old indie movie actress Adrienne Shelley.

But she didn't get a chance to see her film Waitress premiered or enjoy the positive critical response and awards. Just months before the debut of this comedy drama co-starring Keri Russell and Cheryl Hines, Shelley was found murdered. Read more about that shocking turn of events here.
