Craig Charles , who plays Coronation Street cabbie Lloyd Mullaney, is due to leave the soap at the end of August to concentrate on a new series of sci-fi comedy Red Dwarf. But could his departure also free him up to return to the Australian jungle to take part in the new series of I’m A Celebrity?
The actor took part in the popular ITV show last year but was forced to pull out following the death of his brother Dean.
According to The Sun, Craig – who made his name as Red Dwarf’s Dave Lister – is reportedly heading back to the jungle when I’m A Celeb… returns later this year.
A friend told the newspaper: "There would have been nothing Craig would have enjoyed more than staying but Dean's death made that impossible."
Craig’s younger sibling, Dean, died from a heart attack just a few days into the 2014 series of Ant and Dec fronted show. Heartbroken, Craig bid farewell to his camp-mates, which included Melanie Sykes, Michael Burke, Gemma Collins and Carl Fogarty before flying back to the UK.
He said: "I'm out of here, guys... my brother died yesterday. I've got to go sort things out.
"I just wanted to say goodbye. Look after yourselves."
