So far, we’ve been drip fed with little nuggets of information about the new Dad’s Army feature film.
But now the first trailer has been released in all its glory – and we get a glimpse of Toby Jones as the ompous bank manager-turned-commander Captain George Mainwaring (portrayed in the original series by Arthur Lowe).

The actors may have changed, with stars such as Bill Nighy and Sir Michael Gambon taking on the famous cult characters, but the good news is the trademark humour and quintessential charm hasn’t.
As in the original Brit sitcom (that ran from 1968 to 1977), the film follows the journey of the Home Guard Platoon during Second World War in the fictional south coast town of Walmington-on-Sea.

Some of the much-loved characters are returning for the new film with Nighy taking on the role of Sergeant Arthur Wilson and Sir Michael playing Private Charles Godfrey.

Sir Tom Courtenay plays Lance Corporal Jack Jones, while The Inbetweeners’ Blake Harrison plays the young Private Frank Pike. Daniel Mays takes on the role of the spiv, Private Joe Walker.
The film begins in 1944, and temperatures are set soaring with the arrival of the glamorous journalist (aka Catherine Zeta-Jones) who descends on Walmington-on-Sea to write about the brave soldiers.
The plot thickens as the MI5 discovers that a German spy is on the loose.

Original Dad's Army cast members Frank Williams, who reprises his role as Reverend Timothy Farthing, and Ian Lavender will appear in the film.
The film is directed by Oliver Parker and is due for release in February 2016.
