Sheridan Smith will star alongside David Walliams in an adaptation of his best-selling children's book for Sky

David Walliams is delighted that an adaptation of his best-selling children’s novel Ratburger will be a shining jewel in Sky’s festive line-up this Christmas.

David will star in the gruesome comedy, alongside BAFTA-winning actress Sheridan Smith, The Halcyon’s Mark Benton, Nigel Planer (The Young Ones) and Ben Bailey Smith (Law and Order: UK), Sarah Hadland, Sophie Thompson and Cheryl Fergison (EastEnders’ Heather Trott).

“I’m excited to be doing an adaptation of Ratburger for Sky1,” David exclusively told TV Times. "I’m playing Burt, the villain of the piece. It’s a great cast."

Ratburger tells the story of Zoe (Talia Barnett), a young girl who is desperate to keep her new pet rat Armitage – who has a secret talent for dancing! – out of the hands of her wicked stepmother (Sheridan) and shifty burger maker Burt (David), who wants to put rat burgers on his menu – eek!

It’s the latest in a long line of hit adaptations of David’s acclaimed books. Mr Stink (2012), Gangsta Granny (2013), The Boy in The Dress (2014) and Billionaire Boy (2016) have already been screened on BBC1.

It's not the first time David and Sheridan have teamed up; she also starred in Mr Stink and most recently was a guest on his BBC1 series Walliams and Friend.

Ratburger will be available to watch on Sky1, on demand and Sky Go, as well as through online streaming service NOW TV with a NOW TV Entertainment Month Pass.
