Elle King and Birdy will perform at the Bafta TV awards

Elle King (opens in new tab) will kick off the Bafta TV awards with a special red carpet performance.
The singer-songwriter will perform her latest Grammy-nominated single Ex’s and Oh’s to guests from the television industry and onlookers, marking the first time a musician will have performed on the red carpet at the Baftas.

Birdy (opens in new tab) will then perform her single Wild Horses during the main ceremony at the Royal Festival Hall in London.
The 19-year-old, best-known for her cover of Bon Iver’s Skinny Love and for her work on film soundtracks including The Hunger Games (opens in new tab) and The Fault In Our Stars (opens in new tab), will announce her UK and European tour in September.

Krishnendu Majumdar, chair of the Bafta television committee, said: “We are thrilled that Elle King and Birdy will be performing at the House of Fraser British Academy Television Awards on Sunday.
“2015 was a fantastic year for high-quality television and their performances will add to the air of celebration and ceremony, as we honour the very best in British television.”
Nominees for this year’s awards include Idris Elba (opens in new tab), who has earned his first Bafta TV nomination.

The British actor has been nominated for his performance in the title role of the hit BBC series Luther (opens in new tab).
He will go head-to-head in the leading actor category with London Spy (opens in new tab)’s Ben Whishaw (opens in new tab), Wolf Hall’s Mark Rylance (opens in new tab) and Stephen Graham (opens in new tab), who is nominated for This Is England ’90 (opens in new tab).
Historical drama Wolf Hall (opens in new tab) leads this year’s nominations with a total of four nods.

This includes a nomination for the show’s star Claire Foy (opens in new tab), who is in the running for best leading actress alongside Sheridan Smith (opens in new tab), Suranne Jones (opens in new tab) and Ruth Madeley (opens in new tab).
The Bafta TV Awards (opens in new tab) will air on BBC1, Sunday, May 8, 8.00pm.
