Cyndi said she didn't have time to realise what was happening during the Eurovision entry mix-up when the wrong winner was announced. Scooch, a four-piece group who reformed especially for the competition, were chosen yesterday as Britain's entry for the Eurovision Song Contest in Helsinki in May. And confusion reigned when hosts Terry Wogan and Fearne Cotton simultaneously announced different winners. Seconds later Fearne confirmed that Scooch had won the public vote and not soloist Cyndi - also in the final 'sing-off'. The 22-year-old - full name Cyndi Almouzni - was hoping to represent the UK even though she is French. She said: "Very honestly, I wasn't understanding what was going on because it was so fast. I did not know what was going on. It was pretty fast and they corrected it. "When I got off stage, people were saying. 'What happened?'." The singer said she was 'really happy' to have reached the final stages of the competition and all the off-stage support she received was 'priceless'. On getting so far, she added: "I was very surprised, I had no expectation." She wished Scooch well, adding: "They are very nice. I wish them good luck." The selection of the final two went against the expectations of bookmakers, who had Justin Hawkins as favourite to win the race to become Britain's entry. The BBC has apologised for the mix-up.
