Anne Reid has told TV Times the next series of Last Tango in Halifax is very likely to be the last.
"This will be our fourth run and I think that will be enough," reveals Anne, 80. "Derek [Jacobi] and I said we’d only do two series but people love the show and they come up to me all the time to talk about it."
"We’d have been idiots not to do series three and I’m happy to film another, but I hate it when programmes go on too long and become a pale version of the original."
The third series of the hugely popular BBC1 drama ended in February with the final episode of the run attracting an audience of nearly eight million. Filming has yet to begin on a fourth outing.
"I wish I knew when we were starting," says Anne, 'but our writer, Sally Wainwright is working on Happy Valley at the moment. I think we’ll find out after Christmas depending on when everyone is available."
"You’ll have to ask Sally how Last Tango will end, but I don’t want anybody dying. I get scripts all the time where I die in scene two and then everybody else mourns you. You can forget that, I want life-affirming things!"
Both Anne Reid and Derek Jacobi will take part in the current series of Who Do You Think You Are?
