Gavin and Stacey stars James Corden and Ruth Jones have pulled out of plans to write a special version of Cinderella for Comic Relief. According to reports in The Sun, the pair had agreed to write a sketch for next year's Comic Relief TV special but have had to withdraw from the scheme due to other commitments. Comic Relief's chief organiser Richard Curtis is said to be disappointed as the sketch was planned to have been a central part of the fundraising efforts. "The BBC and Richard were really excited about the show. But script deadlines kept passing and this month it became clear it wasn’t going to happen. "Richard must go back to the drawing board and find something else — and fast. He's philosophical about it but if whatever he comes up with next is a turkey he'll be livid." But the BAFTA award winning duo will return as their characters Nessa and Smithy the Gavin and Stacey Christmas special. A pal of the duo revealed: “Their lives have been a roller-coaster since the Baftas. They have hardly had a minute to themselves but they got the Gavin and Stacey script done. “They wanted to do Cinderella but ran out of time. They feel bad about letting Richard down.” A BBC spokeswoman said: “James and Ruth are both busy with other BBC projects. This project has not been shelved for good - we hope that it will make it to the screen.”
