Has Poldark inspired your next holiday?

As Poldark comes to a close tonight, the series has proved to be one of the biggest dramas so far this year with regular ratings of 8million viewers per episode. And it’s been so popular it has inspired fans of the drama to head down to the south-west to explore where the series is set.

Levant Mine, which provides to the setting for the fictional Tressiders Rolling Mill, has reported an 91 per cent increase in the number of visitors to National Trust site. Meanwhile, Porthgwarra Cove – where Demelza spied on a swimming Ross – has also welcomed an increased number of visitors. 

In the 12 hours following the first episode of the series, web hits to Visit Cornwall increased by 65 per cent.  

Hotels, B&Bs and campsites have also reported that potential visitors are planning to follow in Poldark’s footsteps, and local businesses – ranging from horse-trekking stables to kayaking companies – are also hoping to cash in on special Poldark-themed events.

Malcolm Bell, the CEO of the tourist website, said: “Film and TV is proven to have a significant influence on holiday decision-making.

“Poldark has been incredible gift to Cornwall. We couldn’t ask for a more powerful showcase and with the second series confirmed it can only get better. A nd with 12 novels in the series there is potential for it to run and run.”
