Grave Trade, the History Channel's colourful real-life answer to Six Feet Under, is set to return to our screens for a new eight-part series.
T Cribb & Sons' family-run funeral parlour has been based in London’s East End for 130 years. The undertakers employ sixty staff across 10 sites and conduct over 1500 funerals a year, each tailored to the needs of their bereaved clients.
This documentary follows the extraordinary daily challenges faced by the staff and management, from young embalmers Jodie and Chrissy, to junior director Sarah Harris – the 31-year-old daughter of the company director John, who finds herself taking on more responsibility as the company expands.
"To me it's completely normal. I've grown up around death. It's a 24-hour service, so when my father and mother used to come home from the office they'd divert the phones and me or my sisters would have to pick it up," said Sarah, the great-great-great granddaughter of Cribb & Sons' founder.
She added: "When I worked here after A-levels I realised I really enjoyed working in a funeral home. There's not too many jobs you can do where you are making a difference to people when they really need you."
