ITV axes three prime-time shows after poor ratings

Our Shirley Valentine Summer, Change Your Tune and The Big Audition have all been scrapped by ITV after failing to bring in enough ratings, according to a report by Metro.

A source told the website the move is ‘embarrassing’ for the network, as all three shows were only on air for one season.

‘At one point the three shows were hailed as exciting new entertainment formats for ITV,’ they said.

‘However, they’ve all proven to be quite the opposite and saw ratings drop week on week. So they decided it’s not worth throwing any more money at them. It’s pretty embarrassing given how much they were bigged up.’

Our Shirley Valentine Summer aired in July and was dubbed as a ‘Love Island for older women’.

The programme saw a string of famous faces jet off for a summer holiday to Greece together.

Melinda Messenger, Sian Lloyd, Aggie Mackenzie, Nancy Dell’Olio and Lizzie Cundy were among those jetting off for a villa retreat in the sunshine, all hoping to make a fun change during the trip.

Unfortunately, the show struggled to keep up with the competition and capture audiences, with less than two million people tuning in to the final episode.

The Big Audition – which saw members of the public try out for their dream jobs on TV – reportedly pulled in around 700,000 viewers. And Change Your Tune, a series which focused on helping people learn to sing, failed to find its footing, with only 300,000 fans watching.

ITV declined to provide a comment to Metro.
