John Barrowman to host C4 dog show

John Barrowman is to front a brand-new daytime TV series about dogs.

The Doctor Who and Torchwood actor will front Superstar Dogs on Channel 4 next month. The show meets the nation's most talented pooches, who will compete in a series of challenges and on the show's special 'dogstacle course'.

Confessed canine lover John says he couldn't resist the chance to work on the show...

"I have a passion for animals, dogs in particular," he said. "I am hugely excited to be part of a sporting event for dogs and their owners that encourages teamwork, competitive spirit and a large dose of fun and laughter!"

The show will air in the run up to 2014's Crufts Dogs Show, where the winner of this series will receive their own special award.

John, the owner of a Jack Russell Terrier named 'Captain Jack' and 'Harris', a Cocker Spaniel, knows just how tough training pets can be.

"Having dogs myself, I know the determination, love and commitment you need to train them," he said. "It's not easy!"
