Kacey Ainsworth to return to TV in sitcom

Former EastEnders star Kacey Ainsworth is set to return to TV in a new sitcom penned by Ben Elton.

The actress, who sprang to fame as Little Mo Morgan in the soap, is starring in The Wright Way, set in a town council's health and safety unit.

And after a five-year break from the limelight to raise children Blossom and Woody, she told TV Times she was happy to be back at work.

"I'm excited to be back on TV," she said. "For me working as an actress just didn't fit in with bringing up kids. I just wouldn't have seen them.

"I decided to do one theatre role a year because if you don't use it, you lose it in this job. They're both at school now so I'm able to get into it. As soon as I got back in a TV studio, I felt like I was home."

And after her harrowing role in EastEnders - with her character the victim of horrific domestic abuse at the hands of husband Trevor - Kacey admitted comedy came as a welcome relief.

"It was amazing to be doing something more light-hearted - it was nice not to be crying my eyes out at seven o'clock in the morning!" the actress. "Obviously when you're returning, it's important to wait for the right part. I thought this is just wonderful.

"I've not done a huge amount of comedy and it's actually a very serious business, but it was fun! Ben Elton makes you feel confident about making suggestions."

The Wright Way begins on BBC One on April 23 at 10.35pm.
