Kylie's 'yes' reduces director to tears

Mat Horne has told how he shocked his director when he managed to get Kylie Minogue involved in his short film.

After an actress pulled out of Hey Diddly Dee, Mat, who stars in the dark-comedy drama, said he'd call his pop star friend, much to the disbelief of the TV film's writer and director Marc Warren.

Gavin & Stacey star Mat told The Sun: "An actress pulled out quite close to filming. Mark texted me saying, 'Have you got any ideas?' I said, 'Why don't you ask Kylie?' and he laughed. But he didn't realise I have a sort of friendship with her. The production company were saying, 'Don't be ridiculous, she'll never do it.'

"But I rang her - I thought maybe she would like to play a sort of sexually voracious maneater, which she quite truly isn't. I wish she was! Eventually I got a call from Marc saying, 'Kylie's doing it, and I'm in Wagamamas, crying.' I said, 'Mate, you're 46.'"

Mat starred in The Kylie Show and co-presented the Brit Awards with the singer in 2009. The Sky Arts drama, which screens on Thursday at 9pm, is set during last-minute rehearsals for a West End biopic of Andy Warhol and also stars David Harewood.
