Luther 2015: 6 reasons why TVT can't wait!

After an excruciating two-year wait, Idris Elba is set to return in December with a new two-part special of BBC1's Luther.

Here are six reasons why TV Times can not wait for the return of TV's scariest cop show…

1    Answers to big questions!

Where is Alice? Can anyone replace Ripley? Has Luther really quit?  "The idea was to really up the ante," says Idris. "The last one left some unanswered questions and we need to conclude some stuff."

2    The scariest killer – ever!

TV's  creepiest cop show (remember the fiend who lay in wait under his victim’s bed…?)  is excelling itself with a cannibal played by Ripper Street baddie John Heffernan (pictured in Ripper Street). "It sounds terrible but I quite enjoyed it," laughs John.

3    Excellent new cast

Fortitude’s Darren Boyd plays new cop DCI Theo Bloom,  Game of Thrones’ Rose Leslie is DS Emma Lane, esteemed character actor Patrick Malahide is an old-school villain George Cornelius, and  Da Vinci’s Demons’ Laura Haddock is mysterious Megan Cantor, a blast from Luther’s past...

4    Alice is back! Sort of…

Serial killer Alice Morgan (Ruth Wilson) who forged a twisted bond with Luther. We know Ruth is busy with hit US drama The Affair but..  "I fought very hard to keep Alice a part of it in some way," teases Idris.

5    New coat!

Luther was last seen chucking his trademark coat in the Thames. "He has to put his clothes back on, it’s like the Batman outfit," says Idris.

6    The movie starts here…

A Luther movie has been mooted for ages and the new special could just offer the impetus to see it finally happen. "This is like a pilot for the film," promises Idris.
