Top Gear presenter Matt LeBlanc is quitting the motoring show

Top Gear presenter Matt LeBlanc has announced the next series of the BBC 2 motoring show will be his last in the driving seat

Top Gear presenter Matt LeBlanc has announced the next series of BBC 2's motoring show be his last.

“My experience on Top Gear has been great fun. I have thoroughly enjoyed working with the whole team,” says the former Friends star who joined Top Gear as co-host in 2016. “However, the time commitment and extensive travel required to present Top Gear takes me away from my family and friends more than I’m comfortable with. It’s unfortunate, but for these reasons I will not be continuing my involvement with the show. I will forever be a Top Gear fan and I wish the team continued success. Thanks for a great drive.”

Matt originally joined Top Gear at a controversial time for the show when original presenter Jeremy Clarkson was suspended and later dropped from the programme, and co-hosts Richard Hammond and James May quitting too. The trio later re-launched themselves with a rival motoring show The Grand Tour which streams through Amazon Video. BBC Radio presenter Chris Evans was brought in as replacement main presenter but quit after just one series. Matt, Chris Harris and Rory Reid have been the main presenters since 2017.

Since his BBC 2 comedy series Episodes finished filming, Matt has been starring in the hit US sitcom Man With A Plan, which goes into production on its third season this summer.

Top Gear will return to BBC 2 next year.

Simon has long been a fan of soap operas, and especially loves OVER-THE-TOP plots involving evil twins, hair-pulling catfights and natural disasters.

Anyone remember the Sunset Beach earthquake/tidal wave?

Or when Krystle Carrington got locked in the attic and replaced by look-a-like Rita in Dynasty?!

Simon has written for a variety of TV and childrens’ magazines/websites including Inside Soap, Nickelodeon, What’s On TV, Radio Times, Metro, Girl Talk, Disney Girl, Toxic! and Digital Spy.

He has reported LIVE from the red carpet at The British Soap Awards interviewing glammed-up stars from soapland, and hosted a Facebook LIVE session for Metro with Home and Away legend Ray Meagher (Alf "Stone the flamin' crows!" Stewart) to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Aussie soap.

Simon is also co-author of The Treasures Of Coronation Street (Carlton Books)

And the writer and director of (very!) low budget fright flick, Midsummer Night's EVIL and the sequel webisodes series, The Hatchet Woods HORROR.
