Meera Syal joins cast of ITV’s Broadchurch

Meera Syal has become the latest name revealed to be joining the cast of ITV’s highly anticipated second series of Broadchurch.

Meera, best known for writing and starring in Goodness Gracious Me and The Kumars at No.42 is reported to have a ‘pivotal’ role according to a recent radiotimes.com news story.

The production of the second series of Broadchurch is cloaked in secrecy, with only a privileged inner circle privy to the closely-guarded scripts and storylines. Which means speculation is rife!

The murder of young Danny Latimer in last year’s eight-part series rocked the fictional coastal village of Broadchurch and gripped the nation – averaging 9 million viewers per episode. The new series is believed to pick up after the events of series one, with a question mark over conclusions drawn in the previous series.

ITV’s Director of Drama Steve November explained: “We’re delighted with the stellar cast assembled for the new series of Broadchurch.

“There’s a real sense of heightened anticipation about what’s to come, although we’re desperate to protect the secrets of Broadchurch to avoid spoiling what happens next for the viewers.”

With filming currently in progress in Clevedon, Somerset, original cast members confirmed include Olivia Coleman, David Tenant, Andrew Buchan, Jodie Whittaker, Arthur Darville and Jonathan Bailey.

Meera joins other newcomers Marianne Jean-Baptiste, Charlotte Rampling, Eve Myles, Phoebe Waller-Bridge and James D’Arcy.

The series will return to our screens in 2015.
