New structured reality TV show to be set in West End theatreland

TV bosses are seeking young actors to star in a new structured reality show about life in the West End.

Production company Znak & Jones are currently seeking young men and women who live and work in London’s theatreland to become the cast for Life’s A Stage.

Executive producer Glenn Coomber told The Stage the show will be more real than rival series Made In Chelsea and The Only Way Is Essex, because they want it to be an accurate depiction of life in the West End, but admitted they will construct storylines around the cast’s talents.

He revealed he came up with the idea while watching the Royal Variety Performance on TV.

“What began to fascinate me is how the casts change,” Glenn said. “Shows that you thought would run for ages ran for much shorter than perhaps they were envisioned to.

“People assume TV is always very glamorous, and 99 per cent of the time it’s not – and that’s even more true in the theatre world.

“I’ve been fascinated by the idea of people on stage in front of thousands, taking their curtain calls, and then having to run for the nightbus home. I just like that juxtaposition: you’re wearing incredible, expensive outfits and feel like a star – and are a star – but actually there’s a real world of people existing and getting by.”
