Paloma Faith 'turned down' Voice coaching role

While Kylie Minogue continues to go down a storm on The Voice UK, it has been revealed that eccentric singer Paloma Faith was originally approached to join the show - but turned the offer down.

Speaking to the Daily Star Paloma admitted that she refused the chance to join the series as she felt she did not have the confidence to judge other's vocal abilities.

"Yes they did offer me The Voice but I didn't feel that it was right," she explained.

"I don't like the idea of eliminating people because I don't feel confident enough about my own abilities to judge someone else."

The singer added that she is now taking part in a talent search organised by Samsung - along with Luther star Idris Elba - but revealed the approach was very different.

That competition, entitled Launching People, is aiming to discover previously untapped performers, with Paloma saying: "This project is about celebrating someone's talent - whereas The Voice is about rejection and battles."

Both Kylie and fellow newcomer Ricky Wilson have proven popular on the BBC One show, with reports that the Aussie singer will be offered a huge pay rise to stay on for another series.

The Voice UK continues on BBC One on Saturday night at 7.10pm.
