Shelley Smith bows out of X Factor

Shelley Smith has become the second casualty of The X Factor live shows, after failing to see off the challenge from Kingsland Road in the sing-off.

The van driver had narrowly escaped the chop last weekend after the judges chose to save her over fellow over 25 contestant Lorna Simpson.

However she was not quite so lucky when she found herself in the bottom two on Sunday night's show, against the boy band, who finished last in Saturday night's flash vote.

And following a sing-off which saw Kingsland Road perform the Pink hit Try and Shelley singing Sam Brown's ballad Stop, the vote ultimately went in the lads' favour.

"Amazing performance from both acts tonight and Shelley you did extremely well tonight but I'm sticking with my boys," said Kingsland Road's mentor Gary Barlow.

While Sharon voted for her act Shelley, Nicole opted to save Kingsland Road - leaving Louis with the casting vote.

And despite Sharon kissing Louis and pleading with him to save Shelley, he ultimately sealed her fate with another vote for Kingsland Road.

The singer appeared resigned to the result, saying afterwards: "I just want to thank everyone on The X Factor because I've had the time of my life."

Sharon, meanwhile, admitted she was "gutted" by Shelley's loss.

Sunday's result means that Sharon has just one act - Sam Bailey - left in the competition, while the other judges have yet to lose any of their acts.

Next weekend's X Factor will see the 11 remaining finalists performing songs from the movies.

Sunday's show will also feature peformances from Lady Gaga and The Wanted.
