The Voice is finally back on our telly screens as it returned to ITV last week to showcase a whole new bunch of singing hopefuls.

And it was one particular moment which had fans of the show talking on social media, after one contestant blew the judges away with an unexpected opera rendition.

Luke Swatman, from Worcester, took to the stage with a cover of ‘Il Mare Calmo Della Sera’, much to the delight of judges Sir Tom Jones, Olly Murs, Jennifer Hudson and Will.I.Am.

But it was down to Olly and Jennifer to battle it out to get Luke on their team, with Olly even giving the audience his own burst of opera to try and secure the deal.

Claiming he had sung opera for "many years", the Troublemaker singer joked: "You guys must have missed that album - it was massive."

Sceptical Jennifer said: "Don't listen to Olly cause you know he never sung any opera."

Olly then burst into song and showed off his classical skills, but unfortunately it wasn't enough as Luke decided to go with Jennifer instead.

And viewers at home were balled over by the performance, as one wrote on Twitter: "Wow...not my usual thing but what a singer... he gave me goosebumps."

"That was an amazing & perfect voice, I wasn't expecting it & I'm glad they turned! So hard to imagine Olly singing opera!

While a third added: "Thank god they turned for opera man

Meanwhile on the show, Olly also took centre stage again, when he gave an impromptu musical performance of his own.

He said: "Song choice is so important. When I got a ye son X Factor, I sung Superstition. For me, that song changed my life."

To which Jennifer replied: "Sing it for us."

And the popstar happily obliged and got down from his red chair to serenade the audience.
