TV Times tops picks for tonight
What’s on telly tonight? Here the TV Times team of expert reviewers highlight the three best shows on Friday 22nd December
Make Christmas Great Again, 9.00pm, ITV
Al Murray’s alter-ego is back on telly, distressed that political correctness has stopped Christmas in its stride. So he’s out to save it with a private lock-in, featuring song, dance, stand-up and some special guests, including Richard E Grant (playing Santa), McFly and Liam, the people’s winner of this year’s Great British Bake Off. The outspoken publican also takes money-saving expert Martin Lewis to task for being ‘tight’ and runs rings around the cast of Love Island. If you’re not a fan of the Pub Landlord, this won’t do anything to change your mind, but if you like his style of comedy, you’ll love this festive extravaganza! Rating: ***
Celebrity 5 Go in Search of Santa, 8.30pm, C5
All their Christmases have come at once for big kids Christopher Biggins, Joe Pasquale, Reverend Richard Coles, Rustie Lee and Sue Holderness, who are setting off on a four-day adventure to see the big man himself. But before they meet the elusive Father Christmas in this feature-length outing, they must first journey across the frozen Arctic Circle to track him down. From Santa’s home town of Rovaniemi, where more than 3,000 elves, fairy-tale creatures and trolls are working hard to deliver Christmas magic, the festive five venture into the frozen wastes of Finland, where they encounter huskies, reindeer and a traditional Finnish sauna (and rock some excellent Christmas jumpers!). Rating: ***
George Michael to Tom Petty: A Tribute, 9.00pm, Sky Arts
It’s almost a year since the unexpected death of George Michael, who died on Christmas Day at the age of 53. This film honours the singer and other musical heroes we lost over the past year, including Glen Campbell, Chuck Berry and Tom Petty. I’ll Be Me, a documentary on Campbell, follows at 10.30pm. Rating: ****
