Troy: Fall of a City, 9.10pm, BBC1
This version of the story of Troy is definitely channelling Game of Thrones – lots of sex, violent deaths and mystical beings. It ends, of course, with the famous deception of the wooden horse, but it’s how the characters get to that point that will keep viewers enthralled. As we begin, Paris (an excellent Louis Hunter) returns to Troy after having been taken from his royal parents (David Threlfall and Frances O’Connor) as a baby. But Paris is soon causing them grief after stealing the King of Sparta’s beautiful wife, Helen, while on a diplomatic trip… The story may be ancient but the characters are compelling, and it’s far better than the 2004 Brad Pitt movie. Rating: *****
David Attenborough’s Natural Curiosities, times vary, BBC2
This fourth series, shown on W last year, begins with a look at hybrids – creatures that have been created thanks to human intervention. First up is the "pizzly bear", which is a terrifying cross between a polar and grizzly bear and has come about thanks to climate change bringing the two species closer together on the Canadian and Alaskan borders. Next is the smaller but just as terrifying killer bee, which has been created due to the transfer of African bees to South America. How and why are these strange creatures becoming more common? Rating: ****
Casualty, 8.20pm, BBC1
Alicia’s controversial “Rage in Resus” blog is causing quite the stir in the ED and beyond – it’s even made the headlines. But how can Alicia tell Ethan that she’s the one who’s been causing Holby such a headache? Luckily, Ethan has other things to worry about, not least of all Jac Naylor (Rosie Marcel, popping over from Holby City for a guest appearance), who tries to strike a deal with him in the corridor to combat the beds crisis. Rating: ****
