What’s on telly tonight? Here the TV Times team of expert reviewers highlight three of the best shows on telly tonight for Saturday 4^th November

Gunpowder, 9.10pm, BBC1

“We’ve made our plan,” declares a brooding Guy Fawkes, guarding barrels of gunpowder. "Now we must see it through." Tonight’s finale sees the plotters gather at Westminster ready to carry out their explosive attack. We know someone will stop them, but with rumours rife that the Catholics have a terrible plan, Spain nervous about diplomatic relations with King James, and Anne worried for her cousin’s soul, who will it be? Every good schoolchild knows Fawkes was caught, but what about Catesby? And what were the consequences of the plot? A brutal and fascinating finale, with a memorable turn from Mark Gatiss as the scheming Robert Cecil. Rating: *****

Strictly Come Dancing, 6.50pm, BBC1

Can we just take a moment to say how much we’re enjoying Shirley Ballas’s contributions as head judge? Always constructive, brilliantly observant and undeniably fab-u-lous, she’s proving the perfect replacement for Len Goodman. She’s clearly getting along famously with Bruno, too! All she needs now are a few catchphrases… What’s the Ballas translation of ‘pickle my walnuts’, we wonder? All of the remaining couples will take to the floor tonight in a bid to get one step closer to the glitterball, but who will sparkle? Tune in to the results show tomorrow night for the judges’ Dance Debrief and a performance from the Stereophonics. Rating: *****

Casualty, 8.20pm, BBC1

Sometimes Casualty gets a love story so right that we lose interest in anything else going on in the series. The unlikely pairing of Lily and Iain sizzles on screen, and the two minutes of happiness the writers gave them were a delight. So when Sam threw a spanner in the works we weren’t impressed. Tonight, Iain’s finally prepared to admit he’s taken Lily for granted, but with her new job in Hong Kong on the horizon, is it too late? Rating: ****
