What’s on telly tonight? Here the TV Times team of expert reviewers highlight the best shows on Saturday 9th June
Take Me Out: Over 50s Special, 8pm, ITV
They say you’re never too old to fall in love and, tonight, host Paddy McGuinness will be hoping to prove that theory as he works his matchmaking magic on a special ‘Flirty Thirty’ line-up of single Golden Girls in the Take Me Out: Over 50s Special. Among those hoping to find a date are Geri, 62, from Bristol, Sylvia, 69, from Edinburgh and 72-year-old Merle, from Folkestone, who rocks up on a sparkly mobility scooter! As three mature eligible bachelors make their way down the Love Lift, will any of these lovely ladies bag themselves a date to the Isle of Fernando’s this evening? We certainly hope so! Rating: *****
Ninja Warrior UK, 6.30pm, ITV
Only the leanest and meanest competitors have made it through to the grand final of this fourth series. An assault course of eye-watering difficulty awaits the eight finalists, but most of them make it look easy as they battle to be the last man standing (unfortunately, there are no ladies left). A couple of previous winners will be flexing their muscles on the start line, but whoever wins, hosts Ben Shepherd, Chris Kamara and Rochelle Humes are still desperate to see someone summit Mount Midoriyama for the first time ever… Rating: ****
Hidden, 9pm, BBC4
This haunting new eight-part crime drama from the creators of Hinterland is set and filmed in north Wales (and first aired last week on BBC1 Wales). When the body of a young woman is found in a disused quarry, DI Cadi John (Sian Reese-Williams) notices ligature marks on the woman’s wrists. The postmortem then confirms Cadi’s fears – whoever the deceased is, she’d been held captive somewhere, maybe for a very long time. There are also two other storylines that aren’t connected yet – a district nurse with a troublesome ex and a struggling student who is self-harming. Set in the forbidding, mist-covered mountains in and around Snowdonia, it’s bleak and dark, but a great watch too. Rating: ****
